Brief History and Properties 

Ancient civilizations have a long history with lapis lazuli. Around 6,000 years ago, it was first mined in the area of modern-day Afghanistan. The stone was highly prized in prehistoric Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, and other early civilizations, when it was used into jewellery, ornaments, and even powdered to make blue pigments for use in paint and cosmetics.Lapis lazuli was connected to monarchy and divinity in ancient Egypt. It was frequently included into pharaoh sculptures, jewellery, and burial masks. The stone was also thought to have healing and protecting qualities.

Lapis lazuli is recognised for its vivid blue hue, which occasionally includes white calcite and gold pyrite flecks or veins. The tone of blue can range from a dark royal blue to a softer azure colour.The mineral lazurite makes up the majority of the metamorphic rock lapis lazuli, giving it its distinctive blue hue. Other minerals found in it include calcite, pyrite, and sodalite. Golden specks are added to the stone by the pyrite's presence.
